The Beginning
As of late my boyfriend has been asking me "What kind of job/career would you like to have?" Currently I work at a movie theater as a projectionist. Honestly it's a pretty fun job, in fact I really like this job but it doesn't provide me with enough money to pay my bills and the fact that I pretty much have to sign over my weekends isn't so fun. Also I don't see myself working this job for the rest of my life. Ideally I'd like a job doing something creative and fun with weekends off. Some sort of job where I could do design, or teach kids about art and art techniques.
I'm a naturally creative person, I love working with fabrics, mostly using them to make costumes. I also have recently rediscovered my bead box from my teens and have fleshed it out with some more supplies. Thus leading me into the reason for this blog. I've decided to embark on a little adventure. Since I haven't really been able to answer my boyfriend's question, I have decided to try and start selling the things that I can make. This is where Etsy.com comes in. Its a great site for people who make products to sell and gives you tips on how to start and maintain a shop on their site. I figure its a good place to start. Granted I still have a few things to do before my Etsy shop goes up, I've spent the better part of today researching business policies and shipping options. I'm looking forward to starting this shop but I'm also finding it a little terrifying since its something I've never done before. Anyone who reads this who has started a business (online or otherwise), I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give.
Watch this space as I hope to soon post some items on Etsy to sell. I'll be blogging about my shop and any craft/art projects I do on the side. Pictures and links will be provided. Thanks for reading :-)
