My costume Journey

Well hey there! Sorry I haven't written in a while, the school semester started which has been taking up a lot of my crafty time :-( Any ways a friend of mine commissioned me to create a costume for her from the game Journey. She even brought her PS3 over so I could play the game, which is only 2 hours long. Let me tell you, this Journey game is one of the most elegant and beautiful games I have ever played. Wonderful music, artwork and the costume the character wears is wonderfully mysterious.
For the past month I've been slowly working on this costume bit by bit, my friend found a tutorial and pattern to make the costume, which can be found here: Journey Cloak tutorial/pattern. The tutorial and pattern were helpful, to a degree. It advises to cut the cloak out in a half circle shape, however for those of us who have shoulders, just cutting out a half circle doesn't work. I had to add some extra panels and put some darts in to act as shoulder seams to get the cloak to not only sit right but to close completely in the front. Everything else in the tutorial was quite helpful.
This was my first time having a pattern printed out at a printing center (I used Staples) and it wasn't without problems. When printing out the pattern for the hood it never came out quite right, it was either just the right length or just the right width, never both at the same time. Since I had the basic shape in almost the right proportion I traced it out on to fabric, adding inches where necessary and made a mock up of the hood. This worked out really well and needed very little adjustment when cutting out the actual pieces for the costume. This costume also taught me how to make bias tape, I've never done it before because I thought it was super complicated. In reality it is a very simple process and now that I have the bias tape making tool (it looks like a metal wedge) I'll be happy to make my own bias tape again in the future. Of all the things on this costume I had to make the mask was my least favorite. As crafting goes I'm not much of a sculptor or mask maker, but I did my best and ,while I feel it could have been better, the mask turned out decently enough. As for the scarf I hand-painted a majority of the details. By now I'm sure your all dying to see the finished product so I'll leave you with some pictures.

Oh and by the way in June my friend Donna and I will be at the TooManyGames convention in PA. It will be our second time selling our crafty wares at a convention. we're pretty excited about it :-)
