It is done! It took two weekends but the cleaning and reorganization of my sewing/craft room is finished. Let's start with the status of the closet. As you know it was a hot mess of crazy and inefficiency. In my previous post I only managed to get it part way done because a few more storage supplies were needed. After a trip to Target, more storage bins were acquired and organizing began again. Take a look at the before and after photos below:

At the beginning there was a terrible mess in my closet, midway through it was looking better and the finished look is fantastic! The Pinterest idea of using 5 tiered pant hangers works so well for me (you can see it in this post:
I heart Organizing). Now all the fabric I have is visible, tagged with the length and width of the fabric and its all easily accessible. Which of course made me want to immediately start working on projects. But I reigned myself in, kept myself focused and carried on with my task. The after photo, shows that my closet is now a usable and organized piece of real estate in my sewing/craft room. The bins/baskets serve to hold a collection of various supplies, miscellaneous items, projects in progress and large pieces of scrap fabric. I'm so excited to be able to properly use this closet, as well as easily open and close the doors!
With the closet done it was time to address the plethora of boxes and plastic bags with who knows what in them that occupied the floor. The items were sorted into the bins in the closet, the trash, and a donation pile. The floor now clean, I began to reorganize the items on the cubby shelf. Luckily I already had storage bins for the shelf, and some semblance of organization already in place. It was just a matter of tidying and rearranging the bins to make it more useful and aesthetically pleasing. Employing tip #10 from
22 Tips to Organize Your Craft Room, I was able to get quite a few loose supplies off the cubby shelf and into an over door shoe organizer. All of my sewing notions, glue and other eclectic but useful supplies now have homes. Through the process of tackling the cubby shelf my work table was simultaneously cleared off. With everything tidied and organized, the floor was vacuumed, my Rubbermaid drawer system for my patterns was moved into a more usable position and my vintage dress form relocated to a different and much more accessible corner of my room. In the process of cleaning I found old art projects and hung them on my walls, instead of having them crammed in the closet, set on a random corner of the floor or just leaning haphazardly against a wall. The after pictures provide a view into what now feels like a wonderful place to be creative and work, I am so very pleased with how this all turned out. All that's left to do is come up with some cute labels for all the bins and the supply (shoe) organizer. Below you'll find the before and after photos:
