A much needed update

Wow, so apparently the last time I made a blog post was for MAGFest 2014! I am truly sorry about that, let me try to fill in the time missed and bring everything to the present. After MAGFest 2014 Donna and I had a booth at AwesomeCon in DC. Sadly I didn't plan well and did not have too many new items for the con but it was still a fun convention. Made more fun by the fact that I was able to get a picture taken with Sean Astin, sadly in my photo I had super crazy fan girl cheese face. Check it out below:
One month after Awesome Con 2014 I got married <3 Our wedding was so wonderfully beautiful, surrounded by family and friends. We got married on the beach with our toes in the sand and had a reception overlooking the water at a wonderful restaurant called One Fish Two Fish (if you're ever in Virginia Beach, I highly recommend checking it out). After all the wedding excitement died down, I began prepping for Video Games United (VGU) , which was an interesting experience. Donna, Becky and I signed up for this convention expecting the usual in convention marketplaces and got the unexpected. It was the very first year for VGU and it seemed that it was very heavily funded by the military since every branch was there in hopes to find recruits. There were also lots of booths with indie games and then there was us, the only booth selling handmade crafty items. With VGU done the girls and I began counting down the days till we'd hear about our MAGFest 2015 vendor application. We applied the first weekend of August and didn't hear anything till the end of October, sadly we got waitlisted, which is tantamount to being rejected. We still attended MAGFest 2015 just for the fun of it though.
Well that pretty much catches us up to 2015, my friend Becky and I did a small con in March at JMU, its called Madicon. Being so used to big conventions, Madicon was a bit of a let down for us. It was just so small and not very busy, especially since it was JMU's spring break. In an effort to redeem that weekend I decided to get a booth for Awesome Con 2015. Which for me was pretty ballsy because neither of my friends were interested in vending this time around. Mostly because Donna and her hubby were going to be in the process of moving during the con and Becky figured no one would be interested in her knitted scarves and hats in the hot days of May.
Awesome Con 2015 was, for lack of a better term, AWESOME! I finally got to make something that I have been wanting to make for a very loooong time. Since I started doing conventions I have wanted to move into making wearable garments with a geeky influence, referring to it as geekchic. So putting my skills to work, I set forth making a beautiful wool cape with a deerstalker hat. All inspired by the BBC Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch. In the midst of prepping for Awesome Con I was also transitioning to a full time job which was detrimental to me getting a lot done for the con.  Despite that there were at least three new products on my table at the convention, one being the Sherlock cape and hat, the others being Scrappies (small, handsewn plushies) and what I like to call mitten hats (which can be seen in my booth photo below).

Two more reasons Awesome Con 2015 was awesome: I got a redemption photo with Sean Astin and John Rhys-Davies, since last year's photo had me looking like a crazy fan girl. I also got to go halvesies on a photo with George Takei.

Redemption, definitely not looking like crazy fangirl

Well that's the update, hopefully I'll have a post to update what I aim to do with Creatively Tinkering moving forward soon.
