Reorganization Part 2: COMPLETED!

Image
It is done! It took two weekends but the cleaning and reorganization of my sewing/craft room is finished. Let's start with the status of the closet. As you know it was a hot mess of crazy and inefficiency. In my previous post I only managed to get it part way done because a few more storage supplies were needed. After a trip to Target, more storage bins were acquired and organizing began again. Take a look at the before and after photos below: Before Midway through process After  At the beginning there was a terrible mess in my closet, midway through it was looking better and the finished look is fantastic! The Pinterest idea of using 5 tiered pant hangers works so well for me (you can see it in this post: I heart Organizing ). Now all the fabric I have is visible, tagged with the length and width of the fabric and its all easily accessible. Which of course made me want to immediately start working on projects. But I reigned myself in...

Reorganization begins... part 1 The Closet

So this weekend I finally got a chance to start in on the crazy that is my sewing/craft room. Below you'll find some before pictures that show off the sorry state my room is in. I'm not sure how or when my sewing/craft room got like this, but I'm relatively sure it correlates with when I started doing conventions. The methods employed for maintaining organization worked for my occasional projects here and there, but then more supplies, fabric and notions started filling every nook and cranny whenever there was a convention to prep for. Before I knew it I was inundated with a whole mess of stuff. My cubby shelf that needs some work. View from the open door. My sewing/crafting table.  From the pictures its a little hard to get an idea of the size of the room, let me just say that it is not big. I don't know the exact measurements, never bothered to measure or ask the hubby what size the room was. Just to give you an idea though, the cubbie shelf you see...

Moving forward

With Awesome Con done and no other Cons coming up its time for me to sort out my priorities. My sewing/craft room is currently in rough shape due to the piles of scrap and project fabric that have been accumulating. Also there is a desperate need for better storage and organization in there, no joke it kind of looks like a tornado went through that room. Lucky me there's the oh so addicting site that most everyone knows about, Pinterest. Through Pinterest I have found quite a few pins for sewing/craft room organization that I plan to put in to use in my little room. There will probably be a post involving the reorganization and which pins helped out or worked the best for my small space. Then there is the fact that I feel I've strayed from my creatively tinkering ways, what with getting hyper focused on making convention specific items. So while reorganizing is a high priority so is diversifying and expanding on the things that are posted in my Etsy shop. Aside from the reor...

A much needed update

Wow, so apparently the last time I made a blog post was for MAGFest 2014! I am truly sorry about that, let me try to fill in the time missed and bring everything to the present. After MAGFest 2014 Donna and I had a booth at AwesomeCon in DC. Sadly I didn't plan well and did not have too many new items for the con but it was still a fun convention. Made more fun by the fact that I was able to get a picture taken with Sean Astin, sadly in my photo I had super crazy fan girl cheese face. Check it out below :   One month after Awesome Con 2014 I got married <3 Our wedding was so wonderfully beautiful, surrounded by family and friends. We got married on the beach with our toes in the sand and had a reception overlooking the water at a wonderful restaurant called One Fish Two Fish (if you're ever in Virginia Beach, I highly recommend checking it out). After all the wedding excitement died down, I began prepping for Video Games United (VGU) , which was an interesting experien...

MAGFest 2014 was a SUCCESS!!!

Third time is the charm! I finally broke even at a convention, not only did I break even but I also made a bit of a profit. Of course that extra money will go toward buying more supplies for the next convention, which is AwesomeCon in April. Can I just say it feels amazing to finally hit the break even point. I was starting to get worried that it wouldn't happen and I'd have to give up on this dream of selling the things I make. Now that I have seen I can be successful I'm looking forward to expanding my products to get more attention. Here's hoping some commissions will come my way. I've decided to post a wish list for the next con in order to keep track of what I'd like to have for it.  Wishlist for AwesomeCon: Geeky/nerdy lanyards Embroidered wristlets At least two mini cloaks 10th Dr. steampunk costume Superhero pillows Fun hats (with cat ears, bunny ears, bat wings) Now that school is officially over I'll have the time for all these ...

2013 is coming to a chaotic close...

Hey all, sorry its been so terribly long since I've attempted a blog post. At the start of this semester I had no idea how crazy my life would get. There was Senior Art Project, where I had to come up with an exhibit for the Senior Show at GMU. Then I also had two business classes as well as pilates classes (tying to maintain some sense of a workout routine). So this resulted in my time being occupied by lots of homework as well as my job and one day a week babysitting for a lovely family. Very little crafting went on this semester, there was mostly photography happening for my senior project. The schedule this semester hasn't lent itself to too much free time so it felt very chaotic and stressful. Luckily it has finally all wound down and I graduated from GMU on Dec 19th 2013.  Once graduation was done and over with I had little time to work on MAGFest product. Luckily I've been able to make six rupee pillows and now I have 32 hats ready to be completely finished. My han...

Some Etsy updates

Image
Hey all, I finally got around to updating my listings on Etsy. My friend Lauren volunteered to be a model for me and modeled some of my geeky product. The photos turned out quite nice and Lauren was fun to work with. It was a first for both of us as I don't typically work with people and she hasn't modeled before. Through a bit of trial and error we got some lovely photos. Along with the updates to listings on Etsy I also added some new listings for some of the new stuff I made. I still have to do some new photos of the rupee pillows, so those aren't up yet. The delay there is mostly because I only have one rupee pillow left after the TooManyGames con, so I kind of need to make more. Speaking of conventions, Donna and I will be at MAGFest again the first weekend of January 2014. We're both pretty excited about it, after two conventions we're getting into the groove of making product and how to lay it out nicely on our tables for display.   This fall is gonna be b...
